"Three-day-old broccoli sprouts consistently contain 20 to 50 times the amount of chemoprotective compounds found in mature broccoli heads, and may offer a simple, dietary means of chemically reducing cancer risk," says Paul Talalay, M.D., J.J. A Favorite Green Juice

Image
I've been enjoying bok choy and baby bok choy like crazy lately. It is so delicious raw. I love munching on it like a stalk of celery and I also enjoy it juiced. I personally believe that juicing has many benefits, even though the fiber is removed from the fruits and vegetables in the process, as long as you balance juicing with the consumption of green smoothies--balance is achieved. That way one can get the amazing health benefits from both. I know that in the raw food world people argue back and forth about juicing vs blending. I say enjoy both and reap the rewards. image from bing.com/images Bok Choy Green Lemonade by Elizabeth @ rawlivingandlearning.blogspot.com 4 stalks of organic Bok Choy 1 lemon, peeled 1 bunch of parsley 1 large cucumber, peel if not organic Run all of the ingredients through your juicer and enjoy! +JMJ+ Today I am greateful for a new perspective.

Transitioning to Raw Part II

Image
My Ugly but Yummy Breakfast When I was transitioning to raw I knew the importance of green juices. As I began to routinely juice I began to crave "morning juice", my body was telling me just how much I needed it. I seemed to prefer it upon rising more than any other time of day. And I started to notice that I wanted smoothies in the late afternoon.  But one complaint I have read about with newbie raw foodies is having to do both, green smoothies and green juices. Many ask, why do I have to do both? Can't I just do one? I have to ask, why wouldn't you do both?? They are two entirely different things. Smoothies, green smoothies, give you the fiber and nutrients you need while juicing gives you the nutrients but not the fiber. So why would you juice you ask? Juices are a supplement for additional nutrients and they help protect the body from diseases by supplying it with the live food it needs in an easily absorbable form. Many people do not eat enough ...

Blackberry Mango Smoothie for My Cutie!!

Image
Blackberry Mango Smoothie Blackberries are now in season, so feel free to use fresh. I had found these organic frozen blackberries on super clearance at our local market, so I stocked up. I try to keep things simple, and one way I do that is using what ingredients I have on hand. I don't like feeling that I have to run out to the market just to make a recipe. Keep it simple and use things you have around the kitchen. You just might come up with an even better recipe than the original. Blackberry Mango Green Smoothie Recipe 1 1/2 C filtered water 2 handfuls organic baby spinach 2 T Nutiva Hemp Seeds 1/2 C frozen mango cubes 1/2 C frozen organic blackberries 1 ripe organic banana 1/2 of a frozen banana Blend well in a high speed blender. Enjoy! ~JMJ~ Today I am grateful for delicious fruits! I love starting the day with a nutritious green smoothie. Have a smoothie today and see how great you feel! Peace and Eat More Raw.

Mixed Berry Green Smoothies & Salad Dressing Recipe

I love making smoothies for the children. It makes me feel good knowing I am getting raw foods into them and that they actually enjoy them!!  Our one and a half year old is enjoying his  in the picture above. I just can't get him to keep the straw in the cup! One day he pulled it out with such force that our ceiling was covered with dark purple smoothie. Oh yeah, I was a little bit agitated as I stood on the kitchen table trying to mop smoothie off the ceiling. The good thing is we haven't started repainting the interior of the house yet. Looking forward to that project, NOT!!!!  Well, back to green smoothies. I started incorporating more raw foods into the families diet with green smoothies. I got online and researched everything I could on green smoothies. I watched You Tubes, read blogs and scoured web sites. Then I copied down all of the great recipes, put them in a three ring binder and made my own smoothie recipe book. I don't even look at smoothie recipe books...
