Traveling on a Raw Vegan Lifestyle

Image
Traveling and staying true to a raw vegan lifestyle can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. All it takes to make it easy is a little advanced planning. I always call ahead to the hotel we will be staying at and reserve a small refrigerator for the room. I also pack a large enough cooler to hold the food that I'll purchase once we arrive at our destination. Packing a blender is essential. For short trips I pack my Tribest travel blender. For longer trips I pack my highspeed blender, a Blendtec. I also pack food for the first few days just in case I cannot get to a market at our destination right away. This particular trip I packed lots of cut up melon, whole melons, tomatoes, avocados, oranges, bananas, peaches, lemons, various greens and veggies, and my wheatgrass. I have a travel wheatgrass juicer that makes wheatgrass on the road a breeze. I use the dresser drawers at the hotel for food storage. I set up my kitchen supplies on the top of a dresser so making...

Cabin Blendings

As I mentioned in my last post, we celebrated Thanksgiving Day early this year because we were going up to the mountains again to enjoy our favorite stomping ground. (No scorpion stings this time for me!!) I didn't want to prepare a big Thanksgiving dinner while we were trying to enjoy our vacation so we had ours the weekend before at home.  I made a very simple raw menu in addition to the cooked foods that the rest of the family likes to have alongside my raw dishes. This year I made a raw cranberry relish, see last post, and also some raw doughnut holes and a raw brussel sprout salad. The children loved these doughnut holes so much. I stayed away from them, as I try to limit my nut consumption when eating other overt fats and the brussel sprout salad has avocado and a few pecans. I really prefer that salad over the sweets. Each year we make it a point to travel up to our favorite spot in the mountains. Some times we even get up there twice in one year. We decided to plan a our trip during the week that we normally attend the Homeschooling Conference. This year I just didn't feel the need to go to the conference and preferred a relaxing week in the mountains instead. This is the new cabin we chose. It is in the same area that we always go but we wanted to try staying at a different cabin for some variety. The cabin was lovely and we loved the property. Our views were stunning.  Almost every night we enjoyed a blazing camp fire and even some glutenfree, vegan smores. We even could go on hikes right down the hill of the property we were renting. The kids had a blast exploring all that nature has to offer. We did many other fun things with the children to enjoy our time together. We took some of them horseback riding and the rest of us enjoyed following along in a c...
