Name That Fruit (and a smoothie recipe)

Can You Name This Fruit?

Not to confuse you with the picture of my smoothie, it does not contain this mystery fruit, I just thought they looked really cool alongside the glass.
Easy As 1, 2, 3 Smoothie

This smoothie is so refreshing and so good for you. Filled with chlorophyll and sweet goodness.


1/4 of a ripe honeydew melon
1/2 bunch of flat leaf parsley
1/4 bunch of fresh cilantro

Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Answer to the mystery fruit question: It is the fruit of the tree Annona reticulata. Does that help?
If I were in India eating this fruit I would be considered lower class but in Central America, Mexico and the West Indies it is enjoyed by all! Here is some more important and useful information:

The seeds are so hard that they may be swallowed whole with no ill effects but the kernels are very toxic. The seeds, leaves and young fruits are insecticidal. The leaf juice kills lice. The bark contains 0.12% anonaine. Injection of an extract from the bark caused paralysis in a rear limb of an experimental toad. Sap from cut branches is acrid and irritant and can severely injure the eyes. The root bark has yielded 3 alkaloids: anonaine, liriodenine and reticuline (muricinine).

Other Uses
The leaves have been employed in tanning and they yield a blue or black dye. A fiber derived from the young twigs is superior to the bark fiber from Annona squamosa. Custard apple wood is yellow, rather soft, fibrous but durable, moderately close-grained, with a specific gravity of 0.650. It has been used to make yokes for oxen.

Medicinal Uses:
The leaf decoction is given as a vermifugedecoction is taken as a tonic and also as a remedy for diarrhea and dysentery. In severe cases, the leaves, bark and green fruits are all boiled together for 5 minutes in a liter of water to make an exceedingly potent decoction. Fragments of the root bark are packed around the gums to relieve toothache. The root decoction is taken as a febrifuge.

 So what is this mystery fruit?
It is the Custard Apple.
I happen to think it is wonderful. But it is best eaten in privacy due to the messy way in which I eat them. It is LOADED with seeds!! As I may have posted before, you eat the fruit by scooping it out with a spoon, sucking the flesh off the seeds, spitting them out and then scooping all of the soft custard from the insides of the skins--yummy! I eat 4-5 at a time.

+JMJ+ Today I am grateful for a great bike ride. I biked about 5 miles last night and it was the best escape. I cycled alongside the water and watched the sun as it began to set. I take it for granted that I live in paradise; I really need to remind myself to be grateful each and everyday for this natural beauty that we are surrounded by. Everyday is like a vacation--just with real life thrown in; meaning the daily grind--but I am grateful for the grind, don't get me wrong.

hello. That fruit right there is one of my staple because it's high in carbohydrates just like banana. Her ein the philippines we call it "ATIS fruit" and another english name is "SUGAR APPLE"
It's in season right now.
